"I have volunteered for the American Red Cross Military Family after hours crisis line and have worked in the mental health and intellectual/developmental disabilities field for over 20 years. I have worked with infants, toddlers, children, adolescents and adults. During this time I have seen how abuse and neglect have impacted these people and this has turned me into a strong advocate for those who are being abused and neglected or who are at risk for this. I participated in the “Darkness to Light” training last April and this made my feelings about stopping and preventing child abuse even stronger. I stress to the employees at Support Inc. that even if they have just a feeling that something isn’t right to go ahead and report this to DSS because it is so difficult if not impossible for a child to tell someone he or she is being abused. This is why it is up to us to stand up and protect them. I want to make sure this message reaches everyone in the community. These are my reasons for wanting to participate on the Prevent Child Abuse Gaston Board."
We are very, very pleased to have her in this position.
